Liverpool’s front-three is undoubtedly one of the most feared in world football and no fan would want the triumvirate of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah separated. However, one Sky Sports pundit believes it is a possibility and that Salah would be the man to go if any of the trio departed.
Charlie Nicholas was commenting as part of his Sky Sports column on the Premier League team of the season for the 2019-20 campaign so far.
Nicholas stated that if Liverpool do indeed make a successful transfer swoop on RB Leipzig for long-term transfer target Timo Werner, Salah looked the most likely candidate to leave.
“As much as Liverpool are talking about Timo Werner coming from RB Leipzig and potential other buys, it might be Salah that gets moved on.
“I would be careful about Mane, as I believe even Lionel Messi picked him as one of his Ballon d’Or choices. Salah has been great and Liverpool fans love him, but the two they may want to keep are Mane and Firmino. They have more options about them, not better players necessarily. Salah is that type as he gets the goals.”
Of course, Liverpool could always sign Werner and have a rotational system among the three. But amid the current financial situation caused by the global health crisis Liverpool could consider selling Salah to balance the books as good business.
The Egyptian has been a sensation since heading to Liverpool but when it comes to being a cohesive unit offensively there is no doubt that Mane and Firmino are more important members of the Liverpool team.
With rumours of Real Madrid and Barcelona interest in the 27-year-old, perhaps Liverpool could indeed decide the time is right to cash in on their star player if Werner arrives.
