Paul Merson is confident that Manchester City already have a replacement for Sergio Aguero lined up.

The Argentina international, who will be 33 in June, will not have his contract renewed as both parties look to the future.

Aguero, who signed from Atletico Madrid in 2011, has scored a club record 257 goals in 384 appearances for the Citizens.

In addition, he the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history.

Aguero’s efforts have helped City won four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and five League Cups over his 10-year stay.

Indeed, there could be more yet to come with the club still chasing a quadruple this season.

However, City will now need to replace Aguero, ideally with a like-for-like world-class striker.

And Merson thinks the Etihad Stadium hierarchy would not have made the decision not to renew Aguero’s contract without knowing who they’ll be bringing in.

“I’d be shocked if Man City do not already know who they want for next season,” the former Arsenal star told Sky Sports.

“To say already that Aguero is leaving at the end of the season, it tells me they’ve already got someone lined up to replace him.”

Merson also thinks City should go for one of Harry Kane, Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.

TBR View:

Aguero’s heroics over the years for City need no introduction – just the fact he’s getting a statue outside the Etihad shows just how amazing he has been for the club.

Hopefully Merson is right and City have already lined up a world-class replacement – they cannot rest on their laurels when it comes to replacing a player of Aguero’s calibre.
