Arsenal have taken another step in the right direction with regards to winning their first Premier League title since 2004.

The Gunners, who were knocked off the summit by Liverpool at the weekend, were in midweek action against Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were up against a tricky outfit that has given plenty of scares to opponents over the course of the season, including against Tottenham last weekend.

However, the Gunners were fully focused and duly recorded a routine win over the Hatters, with both goals coming in the first half.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the 24th minute, Kai Havertz squaring the ball for Martin Odegaard to side-foot home after good work from Emile Smith Rowe.

The Hale End graduate then played a part in the second just before the break, cutting the ball back from the by-line and forcing an own goal from Daiki Hashioka.

While Arsenal’s front line delivered the goals, the back line stood firm once again for another clean sheet, their third in a row in all competitions.

William Saliba once again impressed, and even though he didn’t have much to contend with, he was alert whenever put under pressure.

What has been said about Arsenal defender William Saliba?

Sky Sports News pundit Clinton Morrison reckons Arsenal’s title challenge will go right to the wire providing they can keep the £27million man fit.

“Arsenal will definitely go right to the wire this season if Saliba stays fit,” Morrison said, as per the Sky Sports website, towards the end of the game.

Saliba’s injury last season was widely deemed the main reason as to why the Gunners’ title challenge ultimately faltered.

This season, the 23-year-old has played every minute of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign, so fingers crossed this remains the case.

Arsenal have returned to the top of the table, with 68 points from 30 games. Liverpool are second with 67 points from 29 games, while Manchester City also have 67 points but have played 30 matches.

The Gunners are next in action on Saturday when they head to Brighton & Hove Albion in a 5:30pm kick-off.
