Glasgow Rangers ought to sell Ibrox trio Alfredo Morelos, Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic this summer in order to raise funds for new signings.
That is according to Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas, writing in Wednesday’s The Express.
Last summer, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard bolstered the Ibrox side’s ranks significantly and the Light Blues were very impressive in the first half of the 2019-20 campaign.
Indeed, Rangers went into the winter break on the back of a superb 2-1 win at Old Firm rivals Celtic, which aside from earning the Gers bragging rights in Glasgow, also put them within two points of the Hoops with a game in hand.
Since the restart of league proceedings, however, things have gone pear-shaped for Gerrard and co to say the least, with far too many points dropped, while Celtic haven’t put a foot wrong and now sit 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Nicholas believes that Morelos, Katic and Barisic would boast significant market value whilst also being replaceable, and as such ought to be ruthless in raising funds to invest all across the park for a potential 2020-21 title tilt.

“The Light Blues must cash in on Morelos and use the money to strengthen their team,” Nicholas wrote in The Express (print edition, 25 February, page 56).
“Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic have market value as Croatia international defenders, and if decent bids come in for them then they ought to take the money because both players can be replaced.
“Morelos is also expendable and that is why I would cash in. If Rangers are offered £20million for the Colombian they should accept it.”
TBR View:
Controversial comments from the former Celtic man, who reckons Rangers’ talismanic striker is “expendable” and two international defenders can also be replaced easily.
Admittedly, Morelos is in the midst of a goal drought, and still hasn’t fully eradicated his disciplinary issues, while Katic had a day to forget at St Johnstone, failing to deal with a simple long ball in the lead up to their opener.
There will be plenty of planning from Gerrard in the off-season but it remains to be seen if he’ll cash in on those three, particularly Morelos, who is a top goalscorer most of the time, and Barisic, who has developed into a great player this season.
