Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after Dan James was tripped inside the area by Joe Willock during the 1-1 draw last night.

What’s the story?

Well, in the 23rd minute, Leeds were leading Newcastle 1-0 at St James’ Park thanks to Raphinha’s strike as Willock barged into James.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side should’ve been given a chance to double their lead from 12 yards after that incident, in our view.

Willock certainly doesn’t make contact with the ball, but prevents James from reaching it by knocking him to the ground inside the area.

However, Mike Dean wasn’t interested. The incident wasn’t even checked by those inside the VAR hub at Stockley Park. How bizarre.

Anywhere else on the pitch, and a freekick is surely given, so why are the rules different inside the box?

Leeds should’ve been more ruthless against Newcastle

For whatever reason, Bielsa’s men were lacking a bit of ruthlessness on Tyneside last night.

As WhoScored shows, Leeds had 22 shots in total, with nine on target, while also boasting 64.6% possession.

Leeds also made 18 key passes, compared to Newcastle’s 13.

In that respect, it’s not good enough to see just one goal scored, and even that was from a cross which Rodrigo did well to dummy into the net.

When the players get back to Thorp Arch, Bielsa must do some finishing drills, as his players were hugely wasteful against Steve Bruce’s side.

For now, let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the 23rd minute moment…
