Sky journalist claims Newcastle have made 'life-changing' offer to £40m star, he's 'very interested' in joining
Newcastle United have offered Diego Carlos a “life-changing” amount of money and he’s “very interested” in joining, according to Andy Brassell.
The Magpies have already signed a right-back and a striker in the January transfer window. And now they are trying to sign a new centre-back.
Carlos has been linked with Newcastle over the past few weeks and speculation has increased massively in recent days.
Sky Sports recently claimed the Magpies have made a new offer for the Sevilla ace. Now, they’re awaiting a response from the club.
Meanwhile, Chronicle Live reported on Friday morning that Carlos’ representatives have been taken aback by Newcastle’s persistence.
Brassell, speaking on Sky Sports, made a similar claim. He also spoke of the Magpies’ purported offer being “way more” than what Sevilla could offer.
“In terms of (whether Newcastle’s offer) will be attractive to him, yes it will be,” he said.
“From what I gather, his representatives are quite surprised at the persistence that Newcastle have put into it.
“And also, the contract they’ve offered him which he’s really into the idea of.
“It’s a life-changing amount of money for him, it’s way more than Sevilla could offer him so he’s very interested.”
90Min reported on Wednesday that Newcastle have offered Carlos’ club £33million, but they’ll hold out for more than £40million.
If the Magpies can land Carlos, they’d have a truly world-class defender at their disposal.
He has made 118 appearances for the Spanish club. He has won the Europa League and Olympic gold medal, and has his club within reach of La Liga’s summit.
