‘Sit up and take notice’: Garth Crooks claims Arsenal player did something ‘quite brilliant’ vs Bournemouth

William Saliba netted his first goal for Arsenal in their comprehensive 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Saliba has performed impressively in a Gunners shirt since returning from his loan at Marseille, which looks to have done wonders for his development.

He put through his own net in the 4-2 win over Leicester last time out, but made up for it by curling a great strike in at the right end on the south coast.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks included him in his Premier League team of the week and hailed his left-footed finish to make it 3-0.

Saliba goal at Bournemouth hailed by BBC pundit

Crooks said: “He was impressive in Arsenal’s opening fixture, scored an own goal in the following game and netted his first goal in English football in the next. Saliba certainly knows how to make an impact.

“It’s one thing helping your team keep a clean sheet away from home but then to go hunting for goals at the same time is enough to make me sit up and take notice.

“For a defender he certainly knows how to score a goal. His finish against a Bournemouth side, who on this occasion appeared totally out of their depth, was quite brilliant.”

Mikel Arteta now looks to have competition for places at the heart of his defence, with Ben White currently operating at right-back.

Saliba has come in and done so well, having been patient and bided his time during loan spells back in France in order to develop.

The Gunners are the only side with a 100 per cent record in the Premier League after three games, sitting top of the table ahead of the visit of Fulham this weekend.
