Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered his verdict on whether Tottenham Hotspur can win the Premier League.

The legendary manager has been speaking to Sky Sports News about Spurs’ chances of landing a league title.

Tottenham have enjoyed a positive start to life under Ange Postecoglou, with the north Londoners currently making up the top four.

Spurs sit seven points behind league leaders Liverpool and many would probably play down their chances of landing the title this term.

Yet, Tottenham will be hoping to build towards that end under Postecoglou with the view of competing for major honours in the near future.

But Sir Alex Ferguson can’t see Spurs winning a Premier League title due to the dominance of both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Sir Alex Ferguson on Tottenham’s title hopes

Speaking to Sky Sports, presenter and Spurs fan Matt Chapman asked: “Will Spurs ever win the Premier League?”

“No,” Ferguson responded while laughing.

“What’s funny about that? You’ve just broken my heart,” Chapman said.

“61 was the last time they won it,” Ferguson went on. “Well, that’s a long time. But the proposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even for United…”

“I think Spurs are more likely to win it than United these days,” Chapman added.

But Ferguson responded: “No chance.”

It feels a bit harsh from the former Manchester United boss to rule out Tottenham’s hopes entirely.

They seem to be on the right path under Postecoglou but toppling the likes of Man City and Liverpool will take some doing.

Nevertheless, we’ve seen the likes of Leicester City win the league in the past decade and Spurs will fancy their chances of doing something special.

With Postecoglou in the dugout, it feels unlikely that the Aussie boss will settle for anything less, as unlikely as it may seem right now.
