Sinisa Mihajlovic reacts to Arsenal signing Takehiro Tomiyasu
Sinisa Mihajlovic has claimed that he was very happy with his Bologna squad until the final hours of the window with Arsenal signing Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day – in comments reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Tomiyasu became the Gunners’ final addition of an incredibly busy window at the Emirates.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have paid £19.8 million for the Japan international. He has signed a four-year deal that includes an option for a fifth.
Tomiyasu was linked with a Premier League move right through the window. In fact, at one stage it was claimed that he had agreed personal terms with Spurs.
But with Emerson Royal moving to Tottenham on the final day, perhaps Bologna fans may have held out hope that the 22-year-old was staying.
However, Arsenal then came calling. And Mihajlovic has now outlined what a miss he will be.
“Am I happy with my Bologna? Until yesterday I was … Today a little less,” he said, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport when discussing the final day of the window.
“The sale of him was foreseeable but one day before the end of the transfer market, we are a little sorry,” he added.
Arsenal move for Tomiyasu could prove to be a very shrewd piece of business
Mihajlovic’s comments highlight how highly Tomiyasu was rated in Italy. Despite his age, he leaves having made more than 60 appearances in just over two seasons in Serie A.
In total, he has already played over 150 times at club level. And he has established himself in the Japanese national team.
He is a player with the ability to play at right-back or centre-back. And he has some real pace.
Admittedly, Arsenal fans may be a little frustrated with the club’s transfer policy this summer. They have signed a number of younger players yet to reach their peak. And they have spent a lot of money.
But the move for Tomiyasu could really prove to be a shrewd one.
Mihajlovic clearly feels Bologna have lost a good one.
