Newcastle United did not enjoy the summer of transfers which their fans will have hoped for back at the start of June.
And it is not just their fans who will have been left disappointed with Eddie Howe‘s concerns also visible over the last week.
Newcastle chased the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace but were unable to land the England international.
There was quite a bit of change happening behind the scenes at Newcastle with the likes of Amanda Staveley departing the club.
And then there was Paul MItchell‘s appointment after Dan Ashworth left his role on Tyneside for Manchester United.
An appointment which may now be drawing some criticism following the end of what was a dreadful summer.

What Simon Jordan said about Paul Mitchell at Newcastle
The Toon were only able to do minimal business this summer with no big name signing landing on Tyneside.
Mitchell’s arrival mid-way through the summer did not see the former Tottenham Hotspur figure work his magic in the window.
And in recent hours, Mitchell has provided some answers as to why Newcastle struggled so much to get their business done over the summer.
Having admitted he arrived into a predetermined transfer strategy, Mitchell has come under fire from Simon Jordan who questioned why he then decided to take on the role.
“I don’t know why he’d say I think it’s difficult coming into a predefined strategy. Because if it’s difficult, don’t come into it then,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.
“I’m assuming that you were recruited because you met the requirements of a predefined strategy. Otherwise, why would they recruit you? And ultimately, once you’re in that strategy, you can start finesse and to look at the way that things can evolve as you’re trying to evolve the football club. So I think that’s a stupid thing to say.
“And we also understand that most football clubs want predefined strategies. You want to be able to have continuity you want to be able to have a situation where senior employments can can leave and the strategy of the football club doesn’t change with the weather, based upon the personality that’s sitting in the dugout, or sitting in an influential position. So I think that’s a ridiculous thing to say in the first place it.”
Paul Mitchell could still land Adrien Rabiot for Newcastle
There could now be just one saving grace for Newcastle following the closure of the window with there still being some free agents available.
And one of them is a player of significant experience and quality having just left Juventus earlier in the summer.
Newcastle are now battling it out with Manchester United for Adrien Rabiot who is still in search of a new siee.
Although Rabiot’s arrival may not be exactly what Newcastle need right now, he would certainly add a lot of quality to the midfield options.
And, if nothing else, it could be a big boost for Mitchell to get up and running properly on Tyneside.
