Newcastle United are certainly in the business of proving their doubters wrong.
The Magpies weren’t fancied to win the Carabao Cup final vs Liverpool last year, but they proved people wrong.
Meanwhile, players such as Jacob Murphy had their doubters, and he has proven people wrong. While even Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes have been better than expected.
Of course, Eddie Howe has also proven many of his doubters wrong too.
Howe was hired back in 2021, and, at the time, he was seen by many as a stopgap appointment to get Newcastle out of the relegation zone before being replaced by a big name.
However, Howe has gone from strength to strength at Newcastle, and speaking on TalkSPORT, Simon Jordan has admitted that he got it wrong about Howe in the past.

Simon Jordan was wrong about Eddie Howe
Jordan spoke about Howe and the incredible job he’s been doing at Newcastle.
The former Crystal Palace owner says he was wrong about Howe, claiming that he wasn’t a big fan of the manager after speaking to him on the Up Front Podcast.
“Eddie Howe has gone from strength to strength and my opinions of him have dramatically changed. The team is a great team to watch and if they’re going to have a tilt at trying to overturn the orthodoxy, now is as good a time as any,” Jordan said.
“In other shows, post the time that we had together, talked about Eddie Howe. I wasn’t enamoured with him. I thought he was a bit flaky about not taking the Celtic job and I felt that his level was at Bournemouth and I was wrong.
“My opinions of him have dramatically changed because the production of a team has been so significant and the team that performed in his second season after he sailed away from the relegation battle that they were in was a sight to behold and they really, I remember the game, they took it to Man City and drew 3-3 and that was for me, that was a turning point. Then meeting him in person because he wanted to do the Up Front stuff with me.
“So we had a very, very frank exchange of views. And I just like him.”
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United record
Jordan says that he was wrong about Howe, and that is an understatement to say the least.
As Jordan says, he thought Howe’s level was a club like Bournemouth, but he’s proven to be a manager who is good enough to take a team from the relegation zone to the top four.
Howe is a top coach, and when you look at the numbers, he is one of the best managers Newcastle have had in the Premier League era.
| Newcastle managers | Premier League win percentages |
| Kevin Keegan | 51% |
| Eddie Howe | 49% |
| Bobby Robson | 44% |
| Glenn Roeder | 40% |
The current Newcastle boss actually has a better Premier League win percentage at Newcastle than Sir Bobby Robson, and he has a statue outside of the stadium.
Howe is well on his way to becoming a Newcastle legend, that’s for sure.
