Simon Donnelly has claimed on Twitter that he wants to see Celtic captain Scott Brown named as the club’s player-assistant alongside new manager Neil Lennon.
Lennon was brought back to Celtic as manager five years after leaving the club in 2014. Brendan Rodgers has joined English Premier League side Leicester City, in a somewhat surprising move.
John Kennedy – another former Celtic player – is currently the Scottish champions’ assistant manager, while Damien Duff is the club’s first-team coach after joining the club recently from Shamrock Rovers.
Former Celtic player Donnelly claimed on Twitter that despite the presence of Kennedy, he wants to see 33-year-old Brown named as the club’s assistant while playing under Lennon.
TBR’s view
Scott Brown is Mr. Celtic. But the hardman midfielder is still only 33 years of age. He recently signed a contract at the club to keep him with the Hoops until the summer of 2021.
But at the end of that deal, Brown may want to leave for a swansong in Qatar or Australia or somewhere similar. He was heavily linked with a move down under in January.
A few years down the line, an assistant role could be ideal for Brown. Right now, he needs to focus on being a player and a captain.
