In his pre-match press conference, Everton manager Marco Silva confirmed that summer signing Yerry Mina was ready to play against Brighton.
However, the former Barcelona centre-half appears unlikely to play against Brighton today, meaning Mina will have to wait for next weekend’s match against Chelsea to make his Premier League debut.
In comments reported by Sky Sports, Silva indicated that the Toffees’ midweek friendly match against Kenyan side Gor Mahia would be a “good solution” in which to hand Mina his debut.
If Mina were to play in the friendly, it would set the Colombian international up perfectly to make his full debut against Chelsea on 11 November.
Current first-choice centre-half Kurt Zouma is unavailable for that match due to his loan deal with the Blues, and with Mina’s anticipated minutes in the friendly, the new signing would be primed to start against Chelsea.
For Everton fans hoping that Mina will start against Brighton, it appears as if the Colombian international will have to wait until next weekend to finally make his league debut.
Yet a Premier League matchup against high-flying Chelsea presents the ideal situation for Mina to prove his worth in front of the Goodison Park faithful.
