Swiss defender Silvan Hefti has been linked with Leeds United this summer. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the talented St Gallen captain was looked at ahead of the summer transfer window.
Hefti has been in fine form in Switzerland and the Leeds transfer reports reappeared over the weekend.
Sport.ch reported that Leeds were still hopeful of signing Hefti this summer. The report also documented Hefti’s current contract situation. The 21-year-old’s deal was due to expire in 12 months time. This seemingly gave interested parties a realistic chance to bring him in.
However, Leeds and any other interested party will now have to pay more for the player, according to the same source.
Hefti’s contract was extended on Saturday. Hefti played over 40 games for St Gallen last season. The report claims that triggered a clause in his current contract.
Leeds’ interest in Hefti, at least in the English media, has seemingly gone cold. Brighton defender Ben White appears to be the main target for defensive reinforcing at Elland Road.
Bologna were also linked with Hefti recently. Corriere di Bologna reported that a £2.2 million bid was being put together for his signature.
However, with his contract now running until 2021, St Gallen may want considerably more for the Swiss under-21 international.
