Leeds United are reportedly in the mix to sign Brentford defender Yoann Barbet ahead of the summer window – and that would surely push Samu Saiz out of the door at Elland Road.
Established French newspaper L’Equipe have claimed Leeds are rivalling Championship leaders Norwich City and Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 25-year-old defender.
It is also believed that Montpellier and Angers SCO are interested in the former Chamois Niort star. He is expected to leave Griffin Park on a free transfer at the end of the season, hence the heated interest.
But if Barbet signs, Saiz could be even more tempted to leave. That is because the two players had handbags back in November 2017, which shows the much taller Barbet looking over Saiz when the duo squared up (below).
Landing the defender, would surely push Saiz towards the exit – with a departure already expected. The Spaniard is currently on loan at Getafe, and has a permanent clause in his contract worth £5.6million.
Saiz has failed to play for Getafe since February. El Gol Digital claim it is unlikely that Getafe are going to exercise that permanent option, and that he is expected to return to Leeds. But Spanish clubs are expected to come in for him.
If Barbet signs, Saiz will be pushed even closer to the Elland Road exit door.
