Spurs have joined the race to sign Norwich City midfielder, Todd Cantwell, according to a new report from the Express.

Cantwell has been one of the shining lights for the Canaries this term despite them propping up the Premier League table.

He has scored six goals and delivered a number of impressive performances. Those performances have caught the eye of a host of clubs, with Liverpool and Man United also credited with an interest in the youngster.

For Spurs, the signing of Cantwell could be a massively important one for their squad development. With Dele Alli struggling for consistency and goals – he has just one in his last nine – Jose Mourinho needs to bring in a midfielder who can find the net.

Cantwell can certainly do that. Norwich have only scored 25 goals all season. This, of course, means Cantwell has scored just under 25% of their Premier League goals.

It is, therefore, imperative that Spurs do all they can to beat Liverpool and United to his signing.

Key losses need to be replaced

With the form of Alli a worry, there is also the loss of Christian Eriksen to contend with. The Dane was a regular goalscorer and chance creator for Spurs. With him now gone, there is a gaping hole despite the arrivals of Gedson Fernandes and Gio Lo Celso.

Both players have done just ok in their first few months in London. But foreign players sometimes need time to adapt.

You wouldn’t have this problem with a player like Todd Cantwell. He’s transitioned seamlessly from the Championship to the Premier League and looks more than capable of playing in the upper echelons of the league.

Coincidentally, Cantwell could use the aforementioned Alli as inspiration. The England man was in blistering form during his first few seasons with Spurs. He hit double figures in both of his first two seasons with the club.

Spurs, then, would hope to see Cantwell have a similar impact on proceedings.
