Mason Holgate must use loan move to convince Marco Silva he is good enough

According to Sky Sports News, Everton have made Mason Holgate available for loan in the January transfer window.

Holgate is out of favour at Everton and will be allowed to find a new temporary home in January.

There are bound to be clubs lining up for the 22-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order under Marco Silva.

With Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma in form, Holgate faces a battle to break into the side as a centre-half.

And Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny could keep him out of the side as a right-back.

Having not played since the 3-1 home loss against West Ham back in September, Holgate needs to rediscover his form out on loan.

The England under-21 international’s contract runs until 2022 so a permanent move is unlikely.

But he can convince Silva to recall him if he performs well during a loan spell.

Phil Jagielka is coming towards the end of his career and Kurt Zouma will return to Chelsea after his loan expires.

This could open up a vacancy at centre-half, should Holgate convince Silva that he is good enough.

And with Seamus Coleman now in his 30s, Holgate could show Silva that he is the long-term successor at right-back.
