Sunderland midfielder Chris Maguire is enjoying a fantastic season so far at The Stadium of Light.
After scoring just twice for Bury last season as they were relegated, expectations were not that high for Maguire.
But he has proven a lot of doubters wrong and turned in some magnificent displays for Sunderland.
He is now one of the first names on Jack Ross’ team sheet and he plays a starring role in their League One campaign.
Sunderland swooped this summer to complete the free signing of the twice-capped former Scotland international.
Ross would have seen this deal as a low risk move and Maguire would have been brought in to add depth to the attacking midfield department.
But rather than make up the numbers, the 29-year-old has thrived.
Maguire already has three goals to his name this season – more than he got in the entirety of last season with Bury.
The impressive midfielder also has three assists under his belt this term.
As well as providing and scoring goals, Maguire has impressed with his all-round game play.
He is a nuisance and the sort of player that you would love to have in your team but hate to play against.
Maguire is quickly becoming a fans’ favourite. In an era where Sunderland have been renowned for awful transfer decisions, this could be a sign that they are turning the corner when it comes to their business.
