Signing Lowe to go with Lolley would give Nottingham Forest new attacking threat

Nottingham Forest are among a host of Championship clubs chasing Portsmouth wideman Jamal Lowe in the January transfer window, according to the Nottingham Post.

The speedster has 11 goals across all competitions for the south coast side this season and they report that Aitor Karanka could be granted the green light to bolster his attacking options this month.

It is well documented that Karanka’s job has been at risk of late; not because of discord with the players or fans, but because Forest are not in the play-off spots at the halfway mark of the season.

But the storming 4-2 comeback win against league leaders Leeds on New Year’s Day has seemingly convinced the powers that be to back Karanka – not sack him – and Lowe is atop the Spaniard’s January shopping list.

Pompey reportedly rejected a bid of £800,000 for the winger in the summer and his value is only likely to have increased since then, after the hugely impressive season he has enjoyed.

Karanka is going through something of an injury crisis right now, but if he had Lowe, Joe Lolley and Lewis Grabben across the front three for the second half of the season, Forest would have a huge chance of making the top six – just as his employers demand.
