Signing Jack Butland would have to be the final straw for Aston Villa’s long-suffering keeper

Aston Villa have recently been linked with a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland. As reported by The Daily Mail, the newly-promoted Aston Villa are ready to make an offer for Butland later this week.

The report also states Stoke City’s £23 million price-tag, but Aston Villa will want to bring that asking price down.

It would certainly be an eye-catching signing for Aston Villa, whose goalkeeping issues have been well documented in recent years.

Lovre Kalinic was the latest recruit to try and establish himself as Aston Villa’s undisputed stopper but the Croatian struggled to find consistent form at Villa Park.

However, bringing in Butland would simply have to be the final straw for one current Aston Villa man.

Jed Steer has been waiting patiently for his chances at Aston Villa. Every time the stopper gets them, he seems to take them.

The 26-year-old, who spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic last season, is hugely popular among the Villa fanbase and with good reason. He is an exceptional goalkeeper and played a huge role in getting Aston Villa back to the big time.

If Aston Villa sign Butland then Steer will undoubtedly need to take a long hard look at his future with the club. It might have to be the final straw.
