Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of several teams interested in England’s talented young goalkeeper Dean Henderson. As reported by ESPN, Spurs are keen on the Manchester United talent, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United.

It would be a shrewd move from Spurs, but would perhaps not sit well with one player who has surprised Tottenham players since his arrival at the club.

In the summer of 2017, Tottenham paid a fee of £2 million, according to The Sun, to sign the Argentine goalie Paulo Gazzaniga.

Gazzaniga, from Mauricio Pochettino’s hometown of Murphy, was known to the Spurs boss from his time in charge at Southampton and was brought in to act as third-choice stopper behind Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris.

However, in his time at Spurs, he has swiftly proved himself to be more than just a third-choice back-up. When called upon the Argentine has been excellent and usurped Dutchman Vorm as the second choice at Tottenham this season.

So when it comes to succeeding Lloris, he might feel he is at the front of the queue.

Henderson’s arrival, with Lloris still seemingly far from hanging up his gloves or close to leaving Spurs, could force Gazzaniga back down the pecking order.

Whilst he may have a good relationship with Pochettino, this could certainly be a bitter blow to his progress at Spurs. Eventually, Spurs will need to bring in a replacement for Lloris. But at the moment, Gazzaniga may feel he is good enough to step in when the Frenchman is unavailable.
