January saw current Celtic boss Neil Lennon bring highly-rated Scottish youngster Ryan Gauld to Hibernian on loan. As reported by the Daily Mail, the one time dubbed ‘Scottish Messi’ left Dundee United for Sporting Lisbon for £3 million in 2014. It was supposed to be the start of a great career for the Scotsman.

However, he has struggled in Portugal and in January he returned to Scotland on loan until the end of the season.

Lennon was ecstatic at the acquisition. As quoted by The Scotsman in January, Lennon was clearly open to keeping Gauld at Easter Road beyond the summer.

“There’s a possibility of it being beyond [the end of the current season], obviously if it suits both parties.

“He’s a player I’ve liked for a long, long time. He was a great player at Dundee United – and I like what Ryan’s done; he’s gone abroad and tried a different culture.

“I think that’s really impressive, for a young player to do that.”

However, things did not go to plan for the 23-year-old. His spell at Hibs was ravaged by a hamstring injury whilst Lennon left Hibs just two weeks after securing Gauld’s signature.

This summer, Gauld is again available. As reported by Record, he is one of several Sporting players told to stay away from first-team training in order to find a new club.

So should Lennon now consider bringing Gauld to Celtic?

Clearly, the Celtic boss is a huge fan of the player and Gauld clearly needs a fresh start. Of course, he would not go straight into the Celtic first-team.

But Gauls still has huge potential if a team is willing to take a risk on the attacker.

At Celtic, Lennon could give Gauld the chance to develop yet again and put his troubles behind him.

It is certainly a scenario the Celtic boss will surely consider.
