Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen were allowed to leave the previous summer and they weren’t replaced, but despite this, Jose Mourinho was not handed a new striker.
Tottenham’s complacency cost them dear as Son Heung-min then suffered a long-term injury and Spurs’ season has collapsed since then.

Manchester United, meanwhile, were also in need of reinforcements up front and ended up signing Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham failed in their own bid to sign Ighalo – a boyhood Manchester United fan – on loan.
There was criticism from some quarters over the perceived quality of the Red Devils signing, a 30-year-old from the Chinese Super League who had previously impressed at Watford.
Ighalo now has four goals and an assist from eight appearances, with two contributions in Thursday night’s 5-0 win over LASK.
