Si Ferry reckons Rangers will sign two Aberdeen players this summer

Si Ferry has claimed in Open Goal’s Keeping The Ball On The Ground podcast that he believes Rangers will try to sign Aberdeen duo Scott McKenna and Graeme Shinnie in the summer.

Rangers and Aberdeen have developed a proper rivalry in recent matches, more so than before. The battle between Alfredo Morelos and McKenna – described as “box-office” by Gerrard – has caught fans’ attention.

The Gers have raided Aberdeen in recent history with the signing of midfielder Ryan Jack. It is likely that Gerrard will be looking to improve his side in the transfer window.

Ferry started out at Celtic before playing for the likes of Swindon, Portsmouth and Dundee before joining Peterhead, has gained traction as the presenter of Open Goal’s channel. He reckons Shinnie and McKenna could join Rangers.

“I think Rangers will try and sign McKenna in the summer, I think they will. Shinnie as well,” Ferry said. “I don’t think he will be worth the £6million from a year ago.”

TBR’s view

The chances of Rangers raiding Aberdeen for two of their star players seems unlikely. Scott McKenna was targeted by Celtic last summer, with the Press & Journal claiming Aberdeen rejected a £3.5million offer his services.

Rangers do need a centre-back. Gareth McAuley’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Joe Worrall is only on loan. But McKenna is likely to be out of Rangers’ price range. Shinnie, though, is a different story.

The current Dons captain is out of contract at the end of the season, and Rangers have been linked before. He would be an excellent addition and much more within Rangers’ financial reach.
