Alvaro Morata
The Spanish forward has been touted with a move to the Premier League for a while now, usually with Arsenal as the front-runners, but Chelsea’s name has been thrown into the hat in recent weeks and months. Playing his club football for Juventus in Serie A, Morata has drifted in and out of the side since his move from Real Madrid back in 2014.
The Spaniard has started as Spain’s main striker this tournament and with the service from the likes of Andres Iniesta and potential team-mate Cesc Fabregas, Morata struggled in the opening game against Czech Republic. He was frustrated with how well the Czech’s were defending, and struggled to find himself in any space to be found.
The second game against Turkey however was totally different. The forward was left alone for much of the match and bagged himself two goals in the process. If the rumours are to be believed, Morata would come to Stamford Bridge and play alongside Diego Costa in a deadly Spanish duo.
Another reason for Chelsea to be looking towards Morata is because I still think he is a better option for Chelsea than the rumoured Romelu Lukaku return. It was The Blues who first brought him to England but sold him to Everton for £28 million a couple of years ago, seemingly keen to cash in while there was not an obvious route towards first-team football for the Belgian.
Morata comes as a cheaper player, and offers more to his overall game than the Everton forward. Morata, who may have lacked goals in his club career to date, is more adapt at bringing others into the game, and in a striking pair with Paulo Dybala this season, the pair forced Juventus to the title. Alongside Diego Costa, I think the pair could be deadly and take Chelsea back towards the top of the Premier League table.
