Matias Vecino – Fiorentina

Having attracted Imbula in the January transfer window, Hughes will be looking for a more defensive minded player to partner his star centre mid. Vecino, who has previously been linked with Napoli, has impressed again for Fiorentina, earning his first caps for Uruguay in the process. Vecino possesses all the key attributes Hughes will be looking for.

This season, Vecino has shown he is the ideal midfield lynchpin for team pushing for European football. Vecino is very impressive on the ball, but never neglects his defensive duties, ensuring his defence is properly screened.

For Stoke, this could allow Imbula to push on, and free the more creative players in the team. Although he will cost similar money to Imbula, this signing is a worthwhile one for a Stoke team with European aspirations.
