Should these Manchester United or Liverpool stars replace Raheem Sterling against Wales?

Marcus Rashford

Interestingly, Roy Hodgson admitted to utilising Marcus Rashford out wide in the game against Portugal as he wanted to see if the Manchester United striker could adapt to the role should he be called upon.

Rashford has been a revelation in the past four months, having not only made his debut for both Manchester United and England, but actually scoring in them too.

His skill-set is suited to that of a winger despite the fact he is nominally a centre-forward. The 18-year-old has blistering pace and looks fearless when running at opposition defenders and also possesses great ball control which comes in handy in the final third when maneuvering his way to goal.

Although Hodgson will not want to risk starting the youngster, England certainly have a talent on their hands. For all intents and purposes, it looks as if he would be comfortable across the front line. However, should Hodgson give him a surprise start against Wales on the wing, Rashford looks as if he has enough about him to really step up to the occasion despite his tender age.

Honourable mentions:

Ross Barkley

The Evertonian has not had the best of seasons, but his potential is there for all to see. On his day ,he can be unplayable, providing goals and assists from a midfield position (albeit often central midfield positions), and would make life hard for defenders with his natural ability on the ball.

James Milner

Milner is actually ranked statistically by UEFA as the fifth best player at the European Championships because of his fine return of five goals and 11 assists for Liverpool this season.

Often seen as a utility man, the 30-year-old is well accustomed to life on the wing, having played there sporadically for most of his club career as well as England, and would offer great defensive cover with his work rate.
