Should Sunderland axe Honeyman for big clash against Peterborough?

Sunderland face Peterborough United tomorrow night in a top-of-the-table clash.

It is a big game for the Black Cats and one that could define their season. After drawing at Coventry City, they will be desperate to return to winning ways against Posh.

Sunderland sit fourth in the League One table while tonight’s visitors Peterborough are second.

Jack Ross’ men have the chance to narrow the gap to one point behind Peterborough in the quest for automatic promotion.

But Ross has some selection dilemmas ahead of tonight’s fixture in the third tier.

The main one is whether he should persevere with George Honeyman, who has been out of sorts lately.

Granted the Sunderland skipper could have won the game late against Coventry, but he spurned that opportunity.

That could cost him his place in the starting line-up, if Ross is brave enough to drop his captain.

In Dylan McGeouch, Lynden Gooch and Chris Maguire, Sunderland already have three creative midfielders in their starting XI.

Taking Honeyman out and bringing in a new player could freshen things up and help them carve out enough opportunities to claim all three points.

Aiden McGeady is back and raring to go and bringing in Max Power to shore up the midfield is another option.

Jerome Sinclair would also chuck his name in the hat for a starting spot, so Ross has options if he does decide Honeyman needs a spell on the bench.
