Should Pellegrini be worried by West Ham tracking Lyon boss Genesio?

West Ham are monitoring the situation of Lyon manager Bruno Genesio with a view to a summer swoop, according to French outlet RMC.

They report that Genesio, who took the Ligue 1 club to the last 16 of this season’s Champions League, is out of contract at the end of the season and talks over a new deal have slowed after losing to Rennes in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.

Goal report that Genesio needed to secure a place in the final of the competition as well as a top three finish in the league to secure an automatic extension, and his failure to do so has alerted the Hammers.

RMC say that Newcastle are also in the hunt for Genesio – but that makes more sense given the precarious nature of Rafa Benitez’s contract situation.

Manuel Pellegrini has largely done what he was brought in to do; improve West Ham’s style of play and ensure they are not involved in a relegation battle in the closing weeks of the season.

But this report suggests that the Hammers board are not completely content with the Chilean’s work – but surely more managerial churn and unrest would be unnecessary given this season has been a relative success.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out…
