Should Newcastle consider Tottenham star, who is reportedly keen on January loan exit?

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly wave goodbye to defender Juan Foyth in January with the Argentine said to be keen on leaving the club on loan – so should Newcastle United have a crack at the defender?

The Telegraph have claimed that 20-year-old Foyth wants to leave on loan next month, given his lack of game time under Jose Mourinho. With Mauricio Pochettino in charge, Foyth was given regular game time under his fellow countryman.

But in Mourinho’s five matches in charge in the Premier League, Foyth has been afforded one very late substitute appearance in the 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers – after Jan Vertonghen had scored an injury-time winner.

Foyth is keen on leaving on loan as the 11-time Argentina international looks to continue his development with regular first-team football. If he is to have a chance of breaking into the Spurs side, his best bet is to remain in the Premier League.

Newcastle, meanwhile, could do with additions at centre-back. Steve Bruce has adopted Rafa Benitez’s three-man defence and that means Newcastle need plenty of options at the heart of their defence.

On the books, they boast Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Florian Lejeune and Federico Fernandez. But Schar, Lascelles and Lejeune have all been injured recently, while Clark has been used on the left side of defence here and there.

A new centre-back should be targeted in January by Bruce and what better option would be to bring Foyth to Tyneside on loan until the end of the season. Foyth has enormous pedigree, establishing himself as a decent Premier League defender.

The £8million Spurs man is only going to get better, and Spurs want him to stay but with Foyth willing to go out on loan – Newcastle would be a match made in heaven.
