Should Marko Grujic be concerned about Sander Berge rumours?

Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for Genk midfielder Sander Berge.

The ace caught the eye against the Reds in the team’s Champions League encounter, and was hunted down by Klopp after the game for special praise (VG).

Now, Genk sporting director Dimitri De Conde has claimed to Radio Punto Nuovo that the Reds do indeed hold an interest in the player.

In quotes published by Goal, he said: “Napoli are interested in Sander, it’s a possibility a deal could be done.

“We also know that Liverpool are interested and [Jurgen] Klopp, after the game at Anfield, complimented him on his performance.”

6ft 5in enforcer Berge is one of the most talented young players currently operating outside of the big five leagues in Europe, but could the rumours be bad news for a forgotten man at Liverpool?

TBR’s view – Rumours should alarm Grujic

All the talk about Berge could be somewhat unsettling for Marko Grujic, who is currently out on loan at Hertha Berlin for the second time.

The Serbia international is a similar player to Berge in terms of position, but is a couple of years older.

It is no secret Grujic wants to return to Anfield in the summer of 2020 to fight for his place ahead of the 2020/21 season (Liverpool Echo).

But if Liverpool went ahead of snapped up Berge, it would be a huge kick in the teeth for the former Red Star Belgrade player.

He will certainly hope the rumours don’t amount to anything.
