Should Leeds United rekindle doomed Massimo Cellino interest in Fernando Forestieri?

Sheffield Wednesday are prepared to sell Fernando Forestieri this month. The Sun on Sunday (27/01/2019; pg 63) is suggesting that the attacker is available at £14 million this month.

So should Leeds United renew their historic interest in the player?

Of course, first things first, there is absolutely no chance they should be spending that amount of money on a 29-year-old. But if Leeds could secure a better deal than Forestieri would certainly fit in with what Leeds United are looking for this week.

With the Owls reportedly needing an exit to help their Financial Fair Play position, Leeds could be in a powerful negotiation position.

Of course, it would not be the first time that Leeds United tried to sign the player.

Back in 2015 Leeds were known to be trying to sign the player from Watford, where he had fallen out of favour. Massimo Cellino claimed the Argentine did not have the ‘mentality’ to play for Leeds. The player himself later hit back at Cellino after his new club Sheffield Wednesday defeated Leeds in January 2016.

He has gone on to establish himself as one of the Championship’s better players and could easily be a valuable member of the Leeds first-team.

The £14 million price-tag is grossly inflated. But for half that price, Leeds would surely be tempted.
