Should Leeds consider defensive colossus released by Nottingham Forest?

Nottingham Forest have confirmed on their official Twitter account that defender Alexander Milosevic has left the club on a free transfer – and Leeds United have got to nab the Swedish star as cover for skipper Liam Cooper.

Milosevic, 27, impressed during his short spell at the City Ground, managing only 12 appearances for the club. However, Sabri Lamouchi has opted to end the seven-time Sweden international’s time at Forest.

During his 12 appearances for the promotion-chasing side, Milosevic helped Forest win six of his 12 appearances and even helped the Championship club keep six clean sheets. He previously had a contract until the end of the season.

It has come as a shock to Forest fans, that Milosevic has departed even though he has failed to make the Championship bench this season. Forest do have Michael Dawson, Michael Hefele, Joe Worrall, Chema and Tobias Figueirido on the books.

Cooper’s recent injury at Elland Road has seen Leeds struggle. Cooper did come on for the final 14 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday, but prior to that he missed three games through injury. In that time, Leeds managed just four points from nine.

Without the skipper, Leeds have been forced to use Gaetano Berardi at centre-back. Naturally a full-back, Berardi has not performed badly but without Cooper, Leeds lack the height needed to defend set-pieces and take on Championship strikers.

Even with Cooper, Leeds are a much more technically-based side rather than an aerial one but sometimes it is needed to have a player with a bit of aerial prowess. 6ft 4in Milosevic has proved that he is mor3 than adept in the air.

Last season, he proved he is effective in both penalty areas – scoring in a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough in April. On a free, he would be an excellent addition as cover for Cooper and Ben White.
