Should Klopp alter Gini Wijnaldum’s position after Netherlands performance?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may have been provided with another option, after Gini Wijnaldum produced another fine performance for the Netherlands.

The 28-year-old was excellent operating as a number 10 for his country in the 4-2 win over Germany on Friday, and there has been a bit of clamour for the ace to start playing a similar role for his club.

Wijnaldum produced an assist from inside the penalty area for substitute Donyell Malen, before adding a brilliant goal himself in injury time.

The star was a threat operating in between the lines and really showed himself to be a capable offensive midfielder – something he has been doing routinely for his country.

TBR’s view

Wijnaldum’s great performance for his country – his latest og several – should be welcomed by Klopp.

The star has often been deployed as a disciplined central midfield player, but obviously has the ability to help out further up the field.

He is effective for the usual Liverpool system but perhaps his offerings in the final third should be considered by Klopp if his side are struggling to break a team down.

Naby Keita is struggling to get going at Anfield thanks to injury and Xherdan Shaqiri appears to be unfavoured.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is an option for the manager but in the cases that the England international is unavailable, £75,000-a-week star Wijnaldum (Spotrac) surely has to be the first point of call.
