Everton are currently short of options at centre-back.
Yerry Mina is back on the treatment table and was forced to miss the weekend Premier League match against Brighton.
The Colombian isn’t expected to be out for too long, but then his record with injuries throughout his career is somewhat concerning.

Marco Silva’s only other centre-half options are Michael Keane and Mason Holgate, with new signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin – who is currently out for the remainder of the year – used more in midfield.
It is thought the Toffees are still keen to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea after a successful loan spell at Goodison Park in 2018/19, but the Frenchman has gotten a decent amount of minutes with the Blues this term and Frank Lampard may not want to lose him while the club are still under a transfer ban.
Perhaps therefore, Everton should consider moving for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen.
TBR’s view – Everton need an experienced defender
Vertonghen could be a shrewd signing for Everton.
Admittedly, it would go against Marcel Brands’ transfer policy of favouring younger players, but Vertonghen is to become a free agent in the summer if he does not agree fresh terms.

He’s been a fine servant for Spurs down the years and has proven his quality in the English top-flight, but it may be time for him to undertake a new challenge.
Everton no longer have any experienced centre-half options following the departures of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams, and the Belgian could be a decent, cost-effective signing. He could be a great example to Keane, Mina and Holgate.
Additionally, Vertonghen – who earns £100,000-a-week at Spurs (Spotrac) – is left-footed which can help with the balance of the team.
