Tim Krul

Tim Howard has been usurped as the club’s number one by Joel Robles after a series of worryingly shaky performances, and now looks set to end his long association with the Merseysiders. Joel Robles meanwhile; despite impressing from time to time and certainly being more reliable than the USA veteran this season, is not of the class which Everton need in order to return to where they wish to be in the top flight.

Tim Krul has missed much of the season due to injury but his quality is not in doubt when fit. This move is especially plausible should Newcastle United drop down a division from the Premier League but even if they avoid relegation, Krul will probably be on the lookout for a move to a club not constantly battling the drop. A starting role would be almost guaranteed, especially if Roberto Martinez is replaced and his successor brings Krul to the club, allowing him the platform to try and displace Cillessen from the Dutch national side.

Everton are in desperate need of a goalkeeper who is both commanding in the box and who can pull off world-class stops that will help them secure hard-earned points, thus returning Goodison Park to the relative fortress that it once was.
