Kieran Gibbs

Kieran Gibbs has been granted a distinct lack of first-team minutes and for a player whose young career had such terrific promise, he really needs to be revitalised as that potential has definitely stagnated ever since being unable to dislodge Nacho Monreal from the left-back berth at The Emirates.

For the next season, should Gibbs indeed be targeted by the Goodison Park outfit, it is likely that the former Gunner would remain primarily as the back-up to Baines but given the former Wigan left-footer’s penchant for picking up an injury, Gibbs would probably see more action, and this would only increase as Baines ages. Everton have often found themselves short at left-back, forced to bring in members of the youth squad and while it is always nice to see these players obtaining a chance in the top flight, it is not helpful for The Toffees in the short term.

Gibbs is a solid defender but like the experienced England international, he is best when on the front foot and attacking the opposition down the left flank. This would likely suit Everton’s tactical approach too and with the striking powerhouse of Romelu Lukaku waiting for crosses in the middle, the overlapping Gibbs would prove to be a great asset. Overall, this move makes perfect sense for both parties.
