Esteban Cambiasso – Olympiacos F.C.
The experienced Argentinian was one of Pearson’s shrewdest signings at Leicester City, and one that ultimately helped to keep the club in the Premiership during the 2014/2015 season. The former Inter Milan star was a lynch-pin of Leicester’s midfield and added five goals in 33 appearances to boot.
With defensive midfield being such a big part of how Derby play, a somewhat cheeky bid to tempt the Argentine back to Pearson’s bosom could pay off and then some. It could particularly help to fill the void left by John Eustace in terms of experience that has plagued Derby since the former’s departure at the end of last season.
George Thorne and Jamie Hanson currently occupy the competition for the defensive midfield slot, but both are still young and could learn so much from a player as experienced as Cambiasso.
It would likely be a large deal to pull it off, but with Cambiasso’s age, the possibility of playing in the Premier League again, and the opportunity to once again work with Nigel Pearson, it could be worth a punt to get him in and add the desperately needed experience that Derby are crying out for.
