Nahki Wells

The 25-year-old Huddersfield Town striker has bagged 18 goals in all competitions this season – ten more than Huddersfield’s second highest scorer – and four assists too. Nahki Wells is pacey and certainly knows where the goal is, as can be seen by his fine goal-scoring record throughout the divisions. We have seen in the case of Jamie Vardy how these most essential of traits can take you a long way in the game, even in the dizzy heights of the Premier League. The former Fleetwood Town man’s success in the top flight may well have given encouragement to others throughout the country to take a gamble on a player performing well in the lower divisions.

Wells has appeared in all but two of Huddersfield’s Championship matches this campaign. According to Whoscored, he has been man of the match in five of these 44 games, and everything points to him being able to impact the Crystal Palace side in a positive manner.

Their strikers have misfired all season. It is an indictment of the situation up front that the Eagles felt it necessary to acquire Emmanuel Adebayor in January. Indeed, only four members of Palace’s squad have hit the five-goal mark in the Premier League this term, with Connor Wickham being the only striker among that quartet. Matching the forward for league goals is central defender Scott Dann, demonstrating that the strikers have not carried enough of the burden. Other members of the front-line include Dwight Gayle (three league goals), Emmanuel Adebayor (one league goal), and Fraizer Campbell – who has only managed to hit the back of the net a couple of times in the cup competitions.

The stage is set for Nahki Wells in the Premier League at Selhurst Park, as a forward with his inherent talents should be able to thrive on the multitude of chances created by the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Wilfried Zaha and Yohan Cabaye.
