N’Golo Kanté
Griezmann’s French compatriot scored on his debut for the national side, just another rung on the ladder which he has scaled at such a frenetic pace this season. The brilliance of his Leicester City team-mates; namely Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, who have picked up the FWA and PFA Player of the Year awards respectively, was perhaps more obvious due to their headline-grabbing contributions in front of goal. However, it is still the case that without the innumerable interventions by N’Golo Kanté, The Foxes would have been nowhere near as effective.
N’Golo Kanté; arguably the signing of the season in the Premier League; is the leader of the pack in terms of interceptions and tackles, making him exactly what Chelsea need. Furthermore, he does not seem to have a significant ego – a trait which is far too plentiful at Stamford Bridge already, so the Frenchman is even more of a perfect fit. Kanté is more than prepared to put in the hard yards and go about his work under the radar, helping out Fabregas in the middle of the park. The existence of a buy-out clause in his contract has put many potential suitors on high alert, with Chelsea likely to be one of them.
When Nemanja Matic returned to Stamford Bridge during the summer of 2014, many Chelsea fans believed that they had finally found the long term successor to Claude Makélélé. However, the towering Serbian has shown nothing like that sort of form during this campaign – of course the same can be said about the vast majority of Chelsea players – and so The Blues are quite possibly in the market for this position. This is perhaps even more likely if strong rumours linking Matic with a move to Juventus are to be believed, but either way, N’Golo Kanté would surely be just the man that Chelsea need in that role.
