Amid reports that Diego Costa is seeking a summer exit from Chelsea after having his head turned by the riches of the Chinese Super League, Blues fans will rightfully be concerned about the possible exit of their star man.
Under contract until 2019, the club would be under no obligation to allow the Brazil born Spanish international to leave, but he has reportedly turned down an offer of a substantial wage increase in a new contract. As a result, if Antonio Conte and co. want to cash in on him while they can then they may have to act quickly, and the Italian is unlikely to tolerate a disruptive influence in the squad for longer than is necessary.
The 28-year-old returned to training with the rest of the first team squad this week after spending several days training alone at home, with the player claiming that he was suffering from a back injury, but doubts remain over his future at the club even if an imminent exit now seems unlikely.
This is just the latest batch of rumours linking the striker with a move away after a prolonged battle for the forward between Chelsea and his former club Atletico Madrid in the summer, when Costa was said to be keen to return to the Spanish capital where he shot to fame under Diego Simeone when he scored 36 goals in 51 games as the side won La Liga in 2013/14.
Their top scorer this season and their main source of goals, with back-up striker Michy Batshuayi failing to earn a Premier League start under Antonio Conte to date, the sale of Costa would almost undoubtedly mean that the club would be forced to spend big to replace him in the summer.
