Should Chelsea join Manchester United and Liverpool in pursuit of Ivan Perisic?

Italian source Gazzetta dello Sporto believe that Chelsea could join two other Premier League clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool, in monitoring Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic with the intention of making a move for the Croatian. Capable of playing on either flank, but preferring the left, where he can cut inside onto his stronger right foot, Perisic has become a staple in the Italian side’s attack this season after joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.

What would he bring to the Premier League?

Perisic is not a typical winger, preferring to cut inside and take chances rather than running down the byline and delivering a cross into the box. Strong in the air and hugely dangerous on the counter attack, Perisic’s pace is a real threat to defences. With seven goals in 19 Serie A games so far this season, he certainly gets amongst the goals too. Experienced, with two goals in four games for his country at Euro 2016 in the summer, he is a ready made squad option that is already proven in both Serie A and the Bundesliga.

Is a move likely?

At 27-years-old, he does not seem to fit the model of a Liverpool signing but his age would seemingly be no impediment to interest from Chelsea or Manchester United. Inter are not desperate to sell but with their new owners keen to invest in a big name signing, the sale of Perisic may open up a position in their squad to do so. The San Siro side could be easily convinced to part ways if the right offer is made.

Verdict

7/10 – Perisic would certainly fit the bill of any top end Premier League squad looking to add depth and experience to their squad, and could be available at a bargain price. He may not be the most glamorous of signings and may not capture the attention of their fans, but all three sides could certainly do far worse this month.
