Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has suggested that he may have to leave the Yorkshire club this summer in order to secure first-team football, which will surely alert plenty of clubs – should Celtic be one of those?
The 22-year-old told Sky Sports that he is desperate to be playing regular football, and that could see him opt to leave Leeds this summer. Kiko Casilla remains the Yorkshire club’s number one.
The Northern Ireland international was first choice for the first half of the season, but Marcelo Bielsa opted to bring in Casilla from Real Madrid in the January window – which saw Peacock-Farrell relegated to the bench.
The former Middlesbrough academy product stated that Andrea Radrizzani had promised he would be given a new deal, but nothing has appeared. He stated that if he does not get game time, he could leave.
“I’ve spoken to the owner,” Peacock-Farrell said. “They said they want to offer me a new deal, but that was two or three weeks ago. The aim for me is to be number one. If that is not the case, I may have to look elsewhere.”
Celtic, meanwhile, have been linked with signing a goalkeeper this summer. Newcastle’s Karl Darlow has been linked, as Craig Gordon turns 37 this year while Dorus de Vries is set to leave. Scott Bain remains first choice.
But is Bain the quality of goalkeeper Celtic fans are willing to see remain between the sticks for 10 in the row? Yes, he has impressed since breaking past Gordon into the number one slot.
However, he has only had half a season in Celtic’s starting line-up and he can certainly be improved. Peacock-Farrell has his whole career ahead of him and a move to Parkhead would give the 6ft 4in colossus the perfect platform.
The goalkeeper has enormous potential and although, right now, he is on a similar playing field to Bain – a couple of seasons in the Celtic side could see him become one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in British football.
