Celtic have been without their inspirational captain Scott Brown in recent weeks due to injury but that has not stopped them climbing back to the top of the league.
The likes of Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie have manned the Bhoys engine room in Brown’s absence and their quality has been at the heart of the club’s recent revival.
Celtic are now looking much more like their old selves and with Brown approaching fitness after the international break, that gives Brendan Rodgers a selection dilemma.
Does Brown walk straight back into the Celtic midfield that is playing so well right now? Celtic legend John Hartson thinks he should.
He said: “Brown has earned the right to go straight back into the team. He deserves to come straight back in as he drives Celtic forward. He is the skipper, he is the leader and before he went out injured he was Scott Brown. The name itself is synonymous with Celtic at the minute.”
Obviously, there is no doubting Brown’s influence at Celtic right now, but Hartson has got this one wrong. Rodgers has got a winning formula right now which he should stick with.
He can ease Brown back in slowly, but this is a side that needs to ease their reliance on its captain because he’s not getting any younger. Rodgers should let the players who have dragged his side up the league continue after the international break.
