Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has lashed out at the Arsenal fans who criticised Arsene Wenger during his final few years at the Emirates.
The legendary Frenchman was asked to leave Arsenal in the summer of 2018. The Gunners initially made it look like it was Wenger who resigned, but it was clear as day that the board made the decision for him.
The 72-year-old was hounded out by some Arsenal fans. He was regularly criticised in his final few years at the Emirates by a section of the supporters, and Ferguson is far from happy about it.
The legendary Manchester United boss slammed those Arsenal fans and claimed that they should all be ashamed of themselves.
Sir Alex Ferguson: Arsenal fans who criticised Arsene Wenger should be ashamed
Ferguson, like many other popular figures, is featured in Wenger’s upcoming movie. He heaped praise on his long-time foe and had a go at the supporters who wanted him gone.
He said in Arsene Wenger: Invincible, as per The Daily Star: “He kept them in Europe every year and yet he was criticised. The supporters should be ashamed.
“Arsene and myself are dinosaurs, but we didn’t do so badly. I won 13 leagues but I was never near going through a season undefeated. The achievement stands above everything else, and it was Arsene’s.”

TBR View:
Arsenal definitely had their problems under Wenger in his final few years at the club. They dropped out of the top four and really struggled to pick up consistent results away from home.
Some felt it was a good thing that Wenger was pushed out of the club then, but three years on now, he probably wasn’t doing as bad a job as the media made some Arsenal fans believe.
Wenger really held Arsenal together despite not having a lot of support from the owners.
Mikel Arteta has that financial backing now and every Gunners fan is hoping that he’ll succeed, but one can only wonder how good a job the legendary Frenchman would’ve done if he was allowed to spend more than any other club in the country in one window.
