Jack Grealish has returned from injury and could feature for Aston Villa on Saturday as they take on Derby County. But his comment on Tammy Abraham’s Instagram should leave Villa fans worried.
The 23-year-old playmaker has failed to feature for Villa since December 7 after picking up a shin injury. He has been working hard ever since to complete his recovery.
He is now available for selection for the first time ahead of a tough clash against Frank Lampard’s Derby. Villa play host to the Rams, with the Midlands outfit now eight points off the play-offs.
With Grealish back in the side, Villa fans have reason to be optimistic. But without top scorer Abraham, that enthusiasm will dissolve just as quickly as it had re-sprouted.
Abraham posted on Instagram ahead of Villa’s clash against Derby. It was a generic photo of the striker scoring one of his 20 goals this season, with the caption “Villa Park effect”.
But it was Grealish’s comment that will be a cause for concern. The playmaker replied to Abraham’s caption with the comment: “Hope you’re okay after today, Tammy.”
There has been no message from Villa over whether Abraham suffered an injury in training. But Grealish’s comment is certainly something to be concerned about ahead of the clash against Derby.
Yes, Grealish was a big loss for Villa. But without Abraham, Dean Smith’s chances of staging a late push for the top six would be all but over. Abraham’s goals have kept Villa in with a small chance of reaching the top six.
All eyes will be on Smith’s starting line-up, after Grealish’s comment.
