Arsenal may face a struggle to bring Dani Ceballos back to the Emirates Stadium.
According to Spanish publication AS, the star’s parent club Real Madrid have supposedly halted talks with Gunners officials about another move to north London.
It is claimed that los Blancos are keen to take a look at Ceballos in pre-season training, with Zinedine Zidane wanting more midfield options.
Arsenal are understood to want Ceballos again, with the player having stood out during Project Restart.
The maestro was one of Arsenal’s best players after the restart, and a number fans have been clamouring for his return.
But ultimately it will be down to Real Madrid, meaning Arsenal may have to consider alternatives.
Fortunately, there may be another Spanish midfielder available this summer.
According to Marca, the whole Valencia squad bar Jose Gaya is up for sale with the club hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic – and that means previous Arsenal target Carlos Soler could be an option.
TBR’s View – Soler a cost-effective alternative?
Valencia have already sold Ferran Torres for a relatively small fee of £21 million (BBC Sport), and Francis Coquelin and Dani Parejo have both left on the cheap.
It is clear the club are in need of cash, so if Arsenal cannot do a deal for Ceballos then perhaps the 23-year-old should be an alternative.
Last term Valencia struggled and Soler himself only scored three goals, but in 2018/19 he managed four goals and 11 assists.
The Mirror reported in February that the Gunners were keen on the £36 million-valued player (Mail), who was described by Valencia legend Fernando Gomez as ‘a very complete player’ (tribalfootball.com).
The ace can operate on either wing and also in central midfield, and has that impressive technical quality typical of Spanish midfielders.
