A scan has shown that Arsenal defender Shkordan Mustafi’s injury against Bournemouth is not as serious as Mikel Arteta first feared.

According to the Daily Mail, Mustafi is facing weeks and not months on the sidelines with an ankle sprain as opposed to any ligament damage.

Mustafi made a poor mistake against Chelsea last week but recovered well at the Vitality Stadium and was part of an Arsenal backline which kept a clean sheet before he went off.

The report says Arteta feared the worst when Mustafi was carried off and should be relieved by the fact Mustafi will be back within weeks.

TBR’s View – Mustafi injury means he’s likely to stay at Arsenal through another window

The report outlines that Mustafi was free to leave the club in the summer under Unai Emery but chose to stay and fight for his place in north London.

And he now looks set to survive another transfer window at the Gunners, where his reputation among the fans was at rock bottom in 2019.

Being moved back from the high-pressure games under Emery has helped him get some degree of confidence back and has laid the groundwork for his recovery of sorts.

And his injury means a potential suitor is very unlikely to swoop now, meaning that Mustafi looks set to survive the season, which perhaps not many would have predicted when he was put up for sale in the summer.
