Shkodran Mustafi praises Mikel Arteta, highlights 'detailed training sessions' as key

Arsenal defender, Shkodran Mustafi, has been singing the praises of Mikel Arteta ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Dundalk tonight.

Mustafi has come back into the fold after returning from injury. This, despite reports emerging this week that the German defender will look to move at the end of the season after rejecting a new contract in the summer.

However, for now at least, Mustafi remains in Arteta’s plans and could be included this evening against the Irish side.

And Mustafi, who was speaking to the press ahead of the game, had high praise for his manager and his ‘detailed’ training sessions in particular.

“From day one, everyone believed in what he was trying to put on the pitch, how he wanted his team to play. He analyses the team so well that when we go to the training pitch, he knows exactly what he wants to do, what we have to train to then be prepared for the weekend.

“I have to say, I have never had such detailed training sessions. We are working in great detail about everything. Of course, we try to do our football first but then we analyse the next opponent and see where we can defeat the opponents with our strength.”

Mustafi signed for Arsenal back in 2016 for a then reported (BBC) fee of around £35m. Since then, the German has made just shy of 150 appearance for the Gunners, despite a couple of injuries hindering his progress.

Even though Mustafi might know deep down that he is going to leave, you have to say this is a very honest and positive assessment of Mikel Arteta from a player who’s not been involved too much.

It’s clear the Spaniard’s methods are getting across to the Arsenal players. They are, of course, a work in progress at the moment but as we saw with Pep Guardiola at Man City, sometimes it can just take that little bit of time to fully click.
