Shkodran Mustafi posts message on Twitter, some Arsenal fans respond

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has sent a message on Twitter urging people to stay strong, stay safe and stay at home.

The United Kingdom is currently in the midst of a battle against a health crisis which has impacted on most of the world, the Prime Minister having ordered people only to leave their homes under a list of “very limited purposes”, banning public gatherings of more than two people and ordering the closure of non-essential shops.

English football has also come to a standstill, with the Premier League, along with the EFL and the WSL, announcing earlier in March that their leagues would be suspended until 3 April at the earliest – a hiatus since extended to 30 April at the earliest.

Many key figures in the world of football have taken to social media to urge their fans to adhere to the government’s instructions and play their part in fighting and overcoming the disease, and on Friday, Mustafi became the latest to do so, sharing an image of himself from the rooftop of his residence:

Some Arsenal fans responded to Mustafi’s message by sending their well wishes to him – as well as poking fun at his “rival” Virgil van Dijk:

Mustafi looked set to depart Arsenal last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by former Gunners boss Unai Emery and told to find a new club.

Arteta’s appointment in December, however, offered Mustafi the chance to start afresh, and he now has a new lease of life at the Emirates Stadium, having repaid the Spaniard’s faith with a series of impressive displays alongside David Luiz.

While the Germany international is enjoying life under Arteta, he admitted to Sky Sports that there are “still many question marks” over the future, particularly amid the current situation.
